Chatham is located in the valley of the Passaic River about 30 miles west of New York City, 8 miles from Union, NJ, and 13 miles from Newark on the southern edge of Morris County, New Jersey. The Italian mansion known as Acorn Hall in Morristown was built in 1853 and is now headquarters for the Morris County Historical Society. During the long period between 1853 and 1971 only two families lived there, and the furnishings and décor that they established can still be seen today, in addition to all kinds of other wonderful Victorians. Chatham Boro Train Station
The Chatham Borough Train Station is located on Front Street between Fairmount Avenue and Washington Avenue in a great central location of town. The Chatham station provides commuter service on the Morristown Line only with trains heading t the Hoboken Terminal and to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. Chatham Borough residents can obtain parking permits for the Chatham train station for an annual charge. Chatham has 3 additional parking lots for employees, business owners and apartment residents. The general public can take advantage of Chatham's daily metered parking. The metered spaces are numbered with parking machines located on the South Side Train Platform. These machines accept coins, dollar bills and Chatham Smartcards. You can purchase Chatham Smartcards at the Borough Hall or via mail using the order form provided in the lobby of the Chatham Train Station. They no longer accept tokens but the Borough offers refunds or credits to your Smartcard.
