Convent Station - History and Neighborhoods

Located on the east side of Morristown, NJ, the Convent Station community is named after, and contains, the railroad station established during the 1870s to serve the 200-acre Catholic School, the Academy of Saint Elizabeth. The academy was the first secondary school for young women in the state, established in 1860, the same year that they established their motherhouse at Morristown, NJ.

The academy is a private college prep school for young women with an enrollment of two hundred and thirty students; it is the oldest secondary school for young women in New Jersey.   Five years later, in 1865, Morristown, NJ incorporated with a boundary that then excluded their large land holdings. That boundary line officially separated Convent Station from Morristown, NJ.

Convent Station's neighborhoods include: Bradwahl, Cromwell Hills, Liberty Greens Townhome Community, and the Normandy Parkway Historic District.  Wonderfully unique and affordable properties (including townhomes, condos, duplexes and single family homes) built on nice sized yards in a community with great education and transportation options to the surrounding cities makes Convent Station and a wonderful choice for home buyers. Both the Morris Township Municipal Building and the Morris Township Police Headquarters are located within Convent Station.

The Bradwahl neighborhood is a suburban stretch of unique homes that start at $500,000 on up over $1,000,000. The main section of this neighborhood is located on it's namesake - Brahwahl Drive.

Cromwell Hills is a Convent Station/Morristown, NJ neighborhood that is primarily occupied by middle income families. There is a Cromwell Hills Recreation district that maintains the community pool, enjoyed by all during the warm summer months.

Normandy Parkway Historic District opened in 1884 as a thoroughfare to connect Washington Avenue to Columbia Turnpike by John Dodd Canfield, who built Eleven Oaks, the first estate on the street, in 1886. Two other estates were replaced by the Normandy Park School and the stone entrance and exit pillars of the second one mark the sides of Normandy Parkway. Working gas streetlights from the Victorian era are still in use.

The Washington’s Headquarters Neighborhood Association spans Normandy Parkway Historic District and includes 375 households in adjacent historical neighborhoods of Morristown, NJ and Morris Township. The Convent Station area encompass a wide range of neighborhoods and  styles of homes in this suburbia setting, conveniently located to all the conveniences of today's lifestyles and working environments.
