The Morristown NJ real estate area has been a buzz since the reopening of the historical building on South Street, known as the Community Theatre, which was originally built in 1937. The Community Theatre had been through some despair and disrepair prior to it's September 29th, 1994 reopening to the sold-out crowd there to see Russia's Kirov Orchestra. This was thanks to an intense remodel both by a community-based volunteer group and more recently (in 2006) a $7 million "Setting The Stage Capital Campaign". This huge Campaign was implemented to complete the much needed upgrades to the Theatre, including the backstage technical capabilities, orchestra pit, fly-rail system and new dressing rooms. In addition, a new building annex was built, called the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts (named after the previous longtime Board Chairman, Bud Mayo). With Liza Minnelli showcasing the newly expanded stagehouse in September 2007, the Community Theatre and Mayo Center for the Performing Arts was complete. Morristown NJ real estate owners and visitors to the area are given the opportunity to see outstanding performers throughout the year now with the inception of the summer season in 2008, with fifteen summer concerts scheduled between June and August that year. This week alone, the Theatre will be jam-packed with top performers including:
- Randy Travis at 8 p.m. on July 25th, 2009
- Gordon Lightfoot at 8 p.m. on July 28th, 2009
- Seinfeld's Jason Alexander at 8 p.m. on July 29th , 2009, and
- Foreigner at 8 p.m. on July 30th, 2009
Membership and ticket sales have skyrocketed since the Campaign's completion and the addition to the Pine Street Center's location was added to house the additional staff needed to support the Theatre's growth.
