Morristown approves 66 Court St. condos - 19th Century houses had been razed last year for project
The Planning Board approved a scaled-down 66-unit condominium plan Monday that will also include 17 affordable housing units in Morristown NJ. Plans for a condominium complex on a 1.3- acre site on Ann and Court streets had been scaled back at a Planning Board site committee meeting in December. The approved plans call for a reduction from eight stories to six, the units to be placed in an L-shape pattern instead of a U-shaped one and the reduction of the square footage of each unit from 1,600 square feet to 1,450. The project, proposed by Pulte Homes, would include 66 condo units, including 61 two-bedroom units and four one-bedroom units, an outdoor terrace, a fitness center and 133 underground parking spaces. Earlier plans called for 62 two-bedroom condo units and four townhouses. The development will be on a hill on the site of what originally held three 19th century houses. Those houses were demolished last year to make way for the project after the town ruled they were not historic in nature in 2006. Pulte will also work with Morris Habitat for Humanity to help with town’s need for affordable housing. In December Town Planner Michael D’Altillo had asked that Pulte provide affordable units within the development, adding the need for affordable housing is still great in Morristown. Pulte representatives did not comment on D’Altillo’s request at the time, but on Monday Jim Mullen, development application manager for Pulte, said Pulte would be working with Habitat to best create the affordable housing. Blair Wilson, executive director of Morris Habitat for Humanity, told the board Pulte would provide money for building the units and Habitat would be responsible for having them built.
